siksik race

A siksik is an arctic ground squirrel - the north's version of a gopher.

Players:

bullet

A group of 6 or more

Equipment:

bullet

2 Hula Hoops

bullet

12 or more beanbags, clothespins, or other small items

bullet

Space to run

How to Play:

bullet

Divide players into two teams

bullet

Place one hula hoop at each end of the playing area - these are the teams siksik "homes".

bullet

Place the beanbags in the middle of the playing area.  This is the siksik "food".

bullet

At the "go" signal, all players run from their homes to the food.  They pick up one piece of food, and return it to their home.
** Food must be placed inside the hula hoop (home).

bullet

Players continue running to the food pile and taking one piece at a time.  When the central pile is gone, they can run to the other team's home for food.

bullet

Continue playing for a pre-determined length of time (2-3 minutes).

bullet

Count how much food is in each home (remember it must be inside the hoop to count).  The team with the most food wins.
