Materials:

bulletTelephone wire
bulletScissors
bulletX-Acto knife (optional)
bulletRound toothpicks (optional)

How To:

bullet

Strip the outer covering off a piece of telephone wire to remove the small coloured wires within. (An X-Acto knife can help with this)

bullet

Cut three pieces of wire approximately 6" (15 cm) long.

bullet

Make a loose knot to hold the wires together at one end.

bullet

Start braiding about 1/4" (5mm) below the knot.  Make the braid long enough to go around your finger.

bullet

Undo the knot and twist the ends of the wires together to form a circle.

bullet

Coil the loose ends of the wire around a toothpick or with your fingers to form a design.  Trim excess wire with scissors.

bullet

Make several rings and trade them with your friends!

Tips:

bullet

Telephone wire or bell wire is available in hardware stores or ask your local phone company service person to donate some.
